Still the BIGGEST Boss

In recent news, there has been a bit of a hoop-la created after Miami rapper, William Roberts better known as Rick Ross, touched on a rather sensitive subject and ultimately dropped as a Reebok spokesman. By this time, everyone has "heard about it" but who's really listening?

Rick Ross is featured on Rocko's street hit U.O.E.N.O. Most people reading this blog will probably stumble over the pronunciation of the song's title... So it only makes sense that this huge misinterpretation has arised. The song title is a play on words and possibly a mockery of Rocko's heavy southern drawl. "UOENO" translates to "you don't even know (it)". In the song Ross says:

"Put Molly all in her champagne, she ain't even know it / I took her home and enjoyed that, she ain't even know it"
Granted, the lyrics could have been interpreted a number of ways. But was it seriously that influential, that he was stripped of his Reebok endorsement deal? I think not. Allow me to explain...

((Talk to em 1Red))

I do not in any way, shape, form or any fashion condone rape. I will not be insensitive to the matter that is occurring so frequently. I am a woman who can relate to other women regarding the issue. I cannot say I have been a victim of rape, however that does not exclude me from an opinion. Rape is a traumatic experience, indeed, but Hip Hop is a genre of music that touches on many topics. Some that are not so favorable but in any case it is still entertainment. It is a career for many people who rely on their "art" to feed themselves and their families, such is true about Rick Ross. Did he victimize any specific individual? That is debatable. How do you, we or I know he wasn't speaking of his female companion? She might have liked it. *shrugs*

Ross is not the FIRST and he won't be the last to be crucified over lyrics. Perhaps, many are forgetting we can't believe everything we hear. Or maybe society is just extra critical and don't know what to complain about. A few months back, rapper Lil Wayne was featured on Future's "Karate Chop" remix and he said:

"Beat that pussy up like Emmitt Till"

CLEARLY! This is a problem. I mean it wasn't until Emmitt Till's family heard it, of course. In both cases, I heard the lines and took them for what they were worth... NOTHING! It's music. If you don't like it, don't listen. Seems like we are being introduced to a line that provokes controversy almost every week. Have we forgotten about Nicki Minaj's ridiculous political line during the most recent Presidential Election on Mercy:

"I'm a Republican voting for Mitt Romney / You lazy bitches is fucking up the economy"
Girllllllllll! *RME* She has a right to choose whichever political party she pleases but uhhhh... Yeah. Have several seats, honey. I have a love/hate relationship with Nicki. She halfway in the looney bin so you never know what to expect from her. I was just informed that has another line out that isn't so tasteful. But whatev.

Call me ignorant or anything of the similar but I still do not feel retracting Ross' Reebok deal is going to change anything. It is 2013, everybody knows how awfully bad Reebok was before Ross. He brought relevance back into the shoe. Not saying they owe him anything but they clearly saw great potential if they signed him, considering the kind of music he makes.

But catch these teas honey...

"We both know that we’re grown / That's why I wanna know / How many drinks would it take you to leave with me? / Yeah, you look good and I got money / But I don't wanna waste my time / Back of my mind I'm hopin you say two or three / You look good, we came to party / But I don't wanna waste my time"
Shall, we put Miguel in the hot seat for his mainstream song that is circulating the airways? Sounds a lot like rape to me, but what do I know? I'm just a listener. I'm just someone who knows how NOT to be influenced by others. Stop taking music so literal. Know when to differentiate real from fake, or fairy tale, for lack of a better term. Have we forgotten that Ross is known for being dishonest? *files nails* I listen for entertain, not a guide to my LIFE! Tuh! Y'all kill me...

DISCLAIMER: My thoughts were all over the place while composing this post. I apologize for any disarray. I am quite passionate about this and cannot seem to portray my thoughts/emotions as I wish.

Also, big shout out to Rocko for this extra promotion. He's an underdog and unfortunately negatively spreads faster.

*grabs more Pickett signs to protest against Reebok*
