Fluent In Florals

March 21, 2014

Spring is in the air and the flowers are blooming!  You are probably thinking about the flowers outside right? Well technically you would be right but right now let's talk for a second about floral patterns, the flowers that will be blooming on almost all clothing items this Spring season.

We all know that clothing and trends change with the season, with the exception of those few that stand out and like to bend the non-existing lines of fashion a bit.  This spring especially will be all about florals.  They are extremely versatile because there are so many different ones.  They go great with solids and usually you have a wide range of options because they have so many colors in them not to mention they can be great for pattern-to-pattern pairing.

Drhianna in full effect?

After spending some time in Europe with his tour, Rhianna arrived back in to the states wearing what looks like the same Pigalle hoodie that Drake had on earlier in the week.

Rhianna rocked the sweatshirt with baggy jeans and black boots, rocking it exactly how Drake did completing the “boyfriend” look with perfection.

What are your personal thoughts on the 2? are they official? or just for show?

Another racially disrespectful fashion editorial!!

Lately I have seen many pictures that are posted by ordinary and everyday people where they paint their face and body to an outrageously obvious different color of their original skin tone to portray as if they are of a race that they are not.

The latest contender appeared in the March 2014 issue of Vogue Italia. The section was titled "Abracadabra” which shot by Steven Meisel and features model Saskia de Brauw in a series of images with her skin darkened while posing in ethnic wears.

As a minority, I find these things very offensive. Is this ok because it's "high fashion" or do you find it offensive, too?

Culturally and morally, In my opinion its wrong on so many levels. This isn't the first incident where these fashion editorials push the envelope and push buttons simultaneously, it most certainly won't be the last! The line has to be drawn somewhere.

Style Tip: Know Your Stripes

Believe it or not there are a few guidelines for who wears certain stripes best.  Not saying that you are only allowed to wear any one kind but just like we all know all clothes aren't for everyone, the same rule applies when talking stripes.  Just be aware of what suits you and your body.

Big stripes, little stripes, thin stripes, thick stripes, vertical stripes, horizontal stripes...the list of the varieties of stripes can go on for days!  Some of today's hottest styles feature some type of stripes because they can be worn in so many ways. However, which is the right stripe for you?  Have you ever thought about it?

The first and most important key to the RIGHT stripe is:  KNOW YOUR BODY TYPE.  Even though you may see a cute dress that happens to be striped, will you look good in that dress?  Just because it is cute and comes in your size does not mean that it is the dress for you.  Are you a more curvaceous woman or a little bit leaner?  All of these things play a role in finding "your" stripe.  By NO MEANS, is it being said that you can only wear a certain type of stripe or that you will only look good in one thing, just be aware of what makes an outfit neat no matter if you are the size of a supermodel, shaped like a coke bottle, or a little more full figured.

Some women can probably pull off a few more looks just for the fact of how clothes are made and the fit but word to the wise for the full-figured try to pay the most attention to avoid horizontal stripes and focus on vertical, especially if one of your best features are your hips.  Horizontal stripes are already going in the left and right direction so sometimes they can create the illusion that you are wider than you are which is not necessarily a good thing.  For taller/leaner women it's the opposite.  Vertical stripes can sometimes be your enemy.  If you are a taller woman with the common thought of "looking too tall", then avoid them.  Just as horizontal does for wider figures, vertical does for longer ones.  They visually extend your body.  For a short woman, this may be what you would like, to look a bit taller. Put your body into perspective by both height and width before making the purchase.  No matter how big or small.

Another thing to pay attention to other than your shape, is the stripe itself, how thick is it?  Even though you have traffic-stopping hips does NOT mean to not wear any horizontal stripes altogether.  Thin horizontal stripes will most likely look neater than thicker ones. Extra- thick horizontal stripes (such as only 3 stripes on one skirt) are also doable for the thicker woman. This is because it looks more like a color-block instead of just outright stripes.

Color is the least important characteristic to pay attention to with stripes just for the simple fact that they go with so many things.  It can be done with other patterns as well.  The most popular is the black and white stripe.  They can easily be paired with a solid. Also, the thickness of them can be any width and they are suitable for almost all body types (with all other factors in mind.)  The color of the solid is more important in the pairing than of the stripes.  However, NOT ALL COLORS GO WITH ALL STRIPES, this includes black and white ones as well.  We all would like to add a "pop of color" but keep in mind that you still must "pop" with the RIGHT color.

THE GAME Season VII

Sooo... BET's "The Game" returns tonight for season 7...

Like most, I was super devastated when Melanie and Derwin were written off the show, and replaced by a younger couple Bleira (Blue and Keira)...  struggling with the same type of "smaller than life" problems as my faves. But I'm not totally convinced that these two crazy young and in love kids can bring back the spunk that Melanie and Derwin brought to the show... (deep sigh)

I LOVED ME SOME MERWIN! But I Guess their characters got too sophisticated for their audience once BET's writers got involved. The show has been struggling to keep my attention since then... With all the new changes I'm praying to the TV Gawds that Melanie and Derwin's charecters are written back in... Even if its only a few shows (Maybe they can meet up to play a game against Derwin's new team...) It may be wishful thinking but hey... who knows...

Honestly, the super sexy Jay Ellis as "Bryce 'The BLUE Print' Westbrook" is the onlyyy reason I still tune in! Dude is FINE!! ( I digress) His charecter is a little messy for me, I hope they polish his emotions up to give him that "guy who every girl loves" image... He's so handsome I'd watch anyway... ;)

Keira (Played by the GAWGEOUS Lauren London) and Blue are currently NOT together and I'm hoping they don't drag their relationship through the "on again, off agains" too long how they did Merwin. We all love the ups and downs because we have all been through that super tough relationship (you know, the one where you just know that after all the crap you end up 'happily ever after') But let's not make this too much of a circus BET....

Blue and Keira and their all too relateable "new love" struggles are the stitches keeping "The Game" on prime time TV, If they can keep this story line strong and progressing we may have a season 8... I'm hoping we get new charecters as well, I need more than this sloppy 40 years and older love triangle that Tasha Mack has going on...

And LAWD I don't know what this is about Tasha Mack Possibly being pregnant but AIN'T NOBODY GOT THE TIME FOR THAT!!!

I'm not sure how excited I am about Kelly's (Brittany Daniels) return, but I sure would be interested and knowing what Jason is going to do to keep Chardonnay! Especially since they were on the verge of a break up at the end of season 6!

Season 7 of BET's "The Game" Premiers tonight at 10pm....

Are you ready???
