Violence in Music

Hi Sweets, 

Seems like lately the Hip Hop scene has been on fire and not in a good way. After the most recent incident a day before the 2014 VMAS, it made me question if we are in a BIGGIE/TUPAC era. Is beef followed by retaliation the way things are handled again in the music industry? Let's recap....

Rapper Wiz Khalifa is currently on his Under the Influence of Music tour with rapper Young Jeezy. Their Friday night show at the Shoreline Ampitheater in Mountain View, CA ended in tragedy when a man was shot backstage and died the next day at the hospital. The victim, 38-year old Eric Johnson was a promoter from Oakland, CA. As a result of this incident, Young Jeezy plus five others were arrested in Irvine, CA. Police allegedly found assault weapons in their possession. None of the suspects have been connected or charged in the death of Eric Johnson. Wiz canceled his show the day after the shooting in Chula Vista, CA at the Sleep Train Amphitheater. He has spoke out calling the incident a tragedy and giving his condolences to the family. 

Most recently at a pre VMA party at 1 OAK nightclub hosted by singer Chris Brown in Hollywood, CA, former CEO of Death Row Records Suge Knight was shot 6 times amongst a crowd of celebs and party goers. As the story developed, reports have surfaced that Knight may not have been the target in the shooting. Everyone is pretty tight-lipped about who was being protected and who the shooter may be. Luckily, Knight just got released from the hospital and is said to be recovering well from his injuries. The rapper The Game's camp had an altercation with security that same night outside of 1 OAK. The two incidents are believed to not be connected. 

With all this FIRE, I hope it doesn't turn into an EXPLOSION!

My Throwback Thursday is complete! Barbie was my homegirl back in the day. So when I found out Mattel has partnered up with major retailers to develop clothing lines focusing on different decades of fashion in her honor, I had to share it with you! Forever 21, WILDFOX , and Lord & Taylor are the 3 retailers chosen to carry each line set to launch this Fall. 

Forever 21 will take us back to the 90s with a 29-piece collection (launch date: September 6). The line will focus on sportswear, outerwear, and accessories. Expect to see Ms. Barbies' bold pink logo everywhere. 

retail:$4-$25

WILDFOX will satisfy the fashion itch of the 80s babies with a 8-piece collection (launch date: November 15). Barbie themed resort wear that includes denim, sportswear, and high-waisted bikini bottoms. 

retail:$38-$180

Lord & Taylor will tackle sleepwear with a 50s and 60s swag (launch date: November 14). The line will cater to a more mature customer keeping the decade in mind.

retail: $36-$42 

Barbie was and still is a part of many homes all across the country. I can just close my eyes and imagine how nostalgic it will feel for shoppers when they spot that signature pink with that 3D logo. You better believe I will be in Forever 21 on September 6th to relive my childhood through each rack. If you're in the Milwaukee area I'll see you there ;)

Mark Bustos-Haircuts for the Homeless

Mark Bustos is the ultimate example of using your gift to inspire and make a difference. 

Mark a 30 year old Philippino high-end hairstylist for the renowned Three Squares Studios in New York, has been offering free haircuts to the poor since May 2012. It all started with a trip Bustos took to visit his family in the Philippines. He rented a barber chair so he could offer his services to underprivileged children. 

On a typical Sunday (his day off) Bustos roams the streets of New York looking for clients. In most cases along with a fresh cut Bustos offers a meal so they walk away looking and feeling good. When asked by today.com why he has taken on this task Bustos stated,"There's so much negativity in this world, and I just simply wanted to bring some positive energy and hope to the world." AGREED!!

The concrete jungle is not Bustos' only working grounds. He has taken his good deed to Jamaica, Costa Rica, and Los Angeles. His approach is simple and genuine ,"I want to do something nice for you today." That's all it takes to change somebodies day and maybe even their lives.

Kevin Hart & Eniko Parish are engaged!

This just in!! The funny man Kevin Hart decided to get all mushy on us and propose to long time girlfriend Eniko Parrish! Needless to say, the rock is gorgeous, as you can see in the picture! The two have been dating for five years, and Kevin finally popped the question. The sweetest thing about it is he popped the question on her 30th birthday! I'm extremely happy for the two love birds; however, am I the only one who realized this news surfaced the same day as the premiere of "Atlanta Exes" which features Kevin Harts long time ex wife.. Was that shade or nahh? What do you guys think?! 

Guess which celebrity stylist just launched a T-Shirt Line!

Celebrity Stylist Shun Melson recently launched her long awaited T-Shirt line, and let's just say "I love.." I was honored with the privilege of meeting Shun this summer, and she is an absolutely outstanding individual. Her drive is unmatched. Pictured below are a couple of shirts from her line, with my favorite tee being worn by Kandi Buruss, "Thou Shalt Get Her Own Money"
