Back to School Tips

Hi guys! I know that it can get a little stressful during this back to school season. Especially if you're a freshman in college.  Here are some tips and tricks that I wish I had known about to help you get through the school year.

Dress for success
You do not want to be that girl who wears 9 inch high heels or pajamas every day to class (unless you're into that kind of thing). But most schools have a dress code for a reason and it's important to follow the rules in order to stay out of trouble. Trust me, they're trying to make our lives easier. My advice to you is to stay comfortable, yet stylish and chic. Stick to your basics; A plain tee and comfortable pair of boyfriend jeans can give you that effortless, yet put together look. Also, most classrooms tend to get very cold. I like to throw on a light blazer especially during the colder seasons. It looks more professional than slapping on a hoodie or an old worn-out jacket. Try to avoid bulky jewelry. Big, chunky bracelets and dangly earrings tend to be a distraction in a learning environment. And If you do like to accessorize, wear something convenient such as a wrist watch. Try going the extra mile by stacking it on with a dainty bracelet or two. Just remember, less is more.

Your makeup should be natural and lightweight. So stick to your favorite nudes and brown eye shadows. A good waterproof mascara and an oil based eyeliner should be your holy grail beauty products. Personally, I like to use Benefit Cosmetics They're Real Mascara and my L'Oreal Infallible The Super Slim Liquid Eyeliner. Both of these products will last all day without you having to constantly think about reapplying them. There are going to be some nights where you will get no sleep whatsoever due to cramming, studying, you name it. A good tip is to purchase a quality cream based concealer to get rid of those dark circles so that you don't end up looking like a zombie in class. My current favorite is Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer. This product is also going to last all day long. Sometimes being an adult sucks. You're growing and learning who you are as an individual. Therefore we need to be prepared for what life throws into our paths.

Preparation is key
Good organization skills are essential to having a smooth sailing semester. Instead of lugging around a bulky backpack, invest in a nice tote bag. Therefore, you'll kill two birds with one stone by being able to carry all of your belongings and looking stylish while doing so.

Your living space
A majority of freshmen tend to get a little homesick after the first few weeks of being in college. It also doesn't help that most schools throw you into some tiny, boring room and expect you to live there for the remaining of the year. Unfortunately, when I was a freshmen I had no experience whatsoever in home decor. Later on after observing my roommates, I learned that having a bright and colorful room can lighten up your mood. Luckily for you guys, Modcloth is having a 20% off Decor Sale that'll give your dorm a pop of personality. There's no code needed, so just shop until your heart is content.

Thanks so much for reading and remember, college is supposed to be the best years of your life. So study hard, party harder and have fun learning the responsibilities of becoming an adult.

Stylist ALERT-Olori SWANK

Hi Sweets....Our stylist spotlight continues. Tonight let's take a closer look at celebrity stylist, blogger, and business woman Olori Swank. This diva is known for her cool blue hair and bold personality!

Swank attended the University of Georgia where she got a degree in biology/psychology and even went pre-med. Her initial career path would have put an M.D. at the end of her name. But there was another plan in place! Brains, creativity, and beauty? ALRIGHT GIRL!

Luckily, Swank found her true calling by accident. A friend of hers a former VP at Jive Records, offered her the opportunity to style a new artist he signed. Before she knew it, Swank was hired and started her career styling for Jive Records. Keysha Cole, Teyana Taylor, Karrueche Tran, and Tyrese are just a few of Swank's clients. She relies on her intense research and hunger for the business to set her apart. Now, Swank is the creative director of KRAZE Magazine. She also maintains her own site that features a blog and an online boutique. I'm excited to see what's to come from Ms. Olori!

Fall Ombré Lip

I love wearing an ombré lip during the fall. It's my favorite way to show off a bold color while giving your lips more definition at the same time. They're so easy to do and looks like you've put in a lot of effort when you really did not. So far I've seen them done in red, coral, and even blue. Here is my version of a purple ombré lip color.
